#Apple egpu comparison drivers#This particular comparison vid doesn't feel very faithful to making gaming comparisons either due to the current lack of a 5600m bootcamp drivers we really haven't seen how this card fares on Windows games which is what most folks are probably interested in seeing, so it seems kind of disingenuous to say "goodbye eGPU" when in reality, for windows gaming, an eGPU with an nVidia card is still probably going to be the higher performing option for some Mac users.Ĭurious if /u/vadimyuryev is aware that FCPX has borked their eGPU compatibility back with the release of 10.4.7 and to my knowledge it's still not fixed. There seems to be a lot of uncontrolled variables and misinformation leading to some sweeping clickbaity conclusions in the last 2-3 vids since he got his hands on the 5600m. Kind of confirms your question about whether or not he's got a deep grasp on the stuff he's comparing. Not to mention the FCPX eGPU issue that currently exists outlined in my other comment in this thread, which is no secret to anyone who's been using FCPX & an eGPU regularly for quite a while now. His video has the 5700xt performing 50-60% worse then how it performs in a desktop, and that makes me wonder if something is wrong with his setup. Typically eGPU's exhibit ~5-20% less performance (varies depending on resolution, internal w/ dummy adapter vs external display, game/software, etc) then a card installed on a mobo PCIE slot. The videos explanation of why eGPU's are slower than cards slotted in a desktop machine was fairly uninformed to put it kindly (I think he said it was because of the tb3 cable itself).
